If you are looking for a betting site offering both deposits and withdrawals via PayPal, be sure to check out the list below. We’ve taken it upon ourselves to take a magnifying glass to the leading UK PayPal betting sites and evaluate them for safety, convenience, functionality and support. What Makes a Good PayPal Online Betting Site?

Of course, there are plenty more reasons for choosing an online betting site beyond ‘because it is one of the betting sites that accepts PayPal’. Any site that has been granted a licence by the UKGC can apply to accept PayPal payments. Even if PayPal gives them the go ahead, that does not mean it automatically rises above all sites that don’t accept online betting with PayPal.
Here are the other main factors that turns a mundane online betting PayPal site into a great one, beyond the factor that it accepts PayPal payments.

Must haves …

  • Bonuses: The best sites offer fair and square bonuses to new players but don’t forget their regular clientele as well. Check out STS for some decent bonuses.
  • Security: This is something you generally don’t have to worry about in the UK, as the the UKGC stipulate that any licensed site must have stringent security protocols in place to protect internet traffic that is both received and transmitted. If security is very important to you, then 888sport is a very safe place to bet.
  • Support: Occassionally things can go wrong, or maybe a customer just has an enquiry about something they are not 100 percent clear about. Good support is crucial, and by ‘good support’ we don’t mean an offshore call center manned by people reading from tick sheets. TonyBet is a good site that has won plaudits for the levels of support offered.
  • Markets: Okay, so most people in the UK bet on football, with horse racing a way behind in second place, but that does not describe everyone. The more markets a site has available, the better for all. Ladbrokes is one UK betting site that has a staggering range of markets.

Nice to haves …

  • Features: We think that both in-play betting and cash-out are now so important they should be viewed as less of a feature, and more of a standard. Live streaming is important too, plus free-to-enter online betting Paypal tournaments can be very entertaining. Grosvenor Sport is one site where live streaming of some events is offered.
  • Payouts: It’s a common theme that online sports books take much longer to give you your money than they do to take it. There is no reason a withdrawal should take as long as five days. The quicker a withdrawal is processed, the better. MansionBet is one site that does not hang about when it comes to paying out.
  • Usability: It should not take any more than three clicks to find an event you want to place a bet upon, and to place that bet. If placing a bet at a site is harder than solving a Rubik’s Cube, then it should be avoided. Karamba Sport is a site suitable for newbs as it is very easy to use.

Why Choose PayPal for Online Betting Payments?

Whether you have used PayPal on other online platforms before or not, you will probably be aware of its benefits, which are also in play when it comes to PayPal sports betting sites. With security always being paramount, potential users will be pleased to hear that when operating at a PayPal sports betting site, there is no need to upload any of your bank details in order to make payments. PayPal betting sites also offers quick deposits and withdrawals. This means that punters can concentrate on betting, while all transactions are fully encrypted.

How to Deposit and Withdraw Using PayPal

Unlike some other payment methods, PayPal can be used in order to deposit and withdraw funds at betting sites, with the process being a simple one in both cases. The first step is to register an account with PayPal, which can be achieved in a number of ways either via their website or mobile app, with a limited number of personal details having to be entered. Having completed this stage of the process, the following is a step by step guide surrounding how to deposit and withdraw at PayPal betting sites UK.

Depositing at a PayPal Betting Site

  1. Add funds to your PayPal account or link your bank card or a bank account.
  2. paypal-1Log in to your account at a PayPal betting site, before accessing the cashier page. Here, as an example, we are going to use MansionBet.
  3. paypal-2Select PayPal as your preferred method of payment and enter the amount in which you wish to deposit, then (in this example) click the ‘Deposit’ button.
  4. paypal-3Confirm your wish to deposit at your PayPal betting site.
  5. paypal-4Upon returning to your betting site page, funds will appear instantly.paypal-5

Withdrawing at a PayPal Betting Site

  1. Log in to your PayPal betting site account and once again access the cashier page (we are going to use MansionBet again).

paypal-22. Click on the withdrawal option and select PayPal as your chosen method of transfer, then enter the amount in which you wish to withdraw from your available balance.

3. Confirm that you wish to withdraw. As you have used your PayPal account before, there are no details to confirm. You cannot withdraw to any payment method that you have not previously used to make a deposit.

Welcome Bonuses and Offers Using PayPal

Punters signing up with a bookmaker for the first time are likely to be in a position to claim some form of welcome bonus, whether it be a matched deposit offer, free bet or price boost. However, it is important to check out the terms and conditions surrounding such promotions, with some PayPal betting websites stipulating that deposits made using PayPal, along with other eWallets or prepaid cards, will not be eligible. If that is the case, it may well be worthwhile using a different payment method for opening deposits, before using PayPal thereafter.

Betting Apps That Use PayPal

PayPal is obviously one of the most popular payment methods around for sports bettors these days. So, it’s important that PayPal properly integrates with your favourite sports betting app. Every sportsbook worth your time will have a solid mobile app, allowing for betting on the go. Ideally, this will be almost a carbon copy of all the features available on the desktop site, meaning PayPal will be a payment option. Depositing and withdrawing through PayPal is one of the easiest and most convenient methods of banking when using a mobile betting app. There’s no need to remember your card details all the time, and you can even add extra verification through PayPal’s own mobile app. Here are our top 5 betting apps that accept PayPal as a banking method:

Alternatives to PayPal

You should now have a much clearer understanding of PayPal betting sites, however if this is not the right payment method for you then there are a number of appealing alternatives available. The following are some of the other deposit and withdrawal options available to punters online today:

Banking

  • Debit Card – The UKGC banned credit card use at gambling sites in April 2020. If you want to use plastic at a sports betting site then don’t worry, as debit cards are still widely accepted.
  • Trustly – Trustly is a way of linking your online banking facility with a merchant, such as an online sports book, to facilitate online payments. Trustly is very popular in Sweden and Australia, and many UK-based sports books allow its use too.
  • Sofort – Sofort offers the same facility as Trustly, but is mainly based in Germany and Austria. A few rare online sports books in the UK permits its use at their Paypal betting websites.

eWallets and eVouchers

  • Skrill – Another popular eWallet is Skrill, which facilitates quick and convenient payments, with punters once again not having to enter their bank details with their bookie.
  • Paysafecard – A prepaid card where payments are authorised using a unique 16-digit pin, transactions using Paysafecard are also fast and secure, with the majority of betting sites with PayPal options now accepting this method too.
  • Neteller – Another eWallet worth considering is Neteller, where instant deposits can be made using your account log in details. In order to facilitate a payment using Neteller, there’s no need to share your banking or card details.
  • Perfect Money – Perfect Money has been around for a while, but has only really been used in Hong Kong. This eWallet is now flexing its financial muscles, and hopefully more UK sports books will offer this payment method in the very near future.

PayPal Betting Websites History

The creation of PayPal is another example of being the right person in the right place at the right time. In those fledgling days of the internet, there were plenty of companies all working hard to create an online payments system, just like there were plenty of companies all working hard to create the best search engine (Yahoo!, AskJeeves, Dogpile etc). Just like Google won the right to stand atop the podium as the most popular search engine, PayPal won the right to take the gold medal for the most popular online payments system.

Somewhat strangely, PayPal’s early success was not even wholly down to their own efforts, but the success of a completely different company. In the late 1990s people discovered that they could sell practically anything they didn’t want online via an online auction site called eBay. Paying for such items or receiving money was problematic in the early days of eBay though, so eBay decided to look for a online payments system that people could use with ease.

Three people had started a company called Confinity in 1998. After failing as a security software supplier they decided to move on to online payments instead. In 2000 the company merged with Elon Musk’s X.com payments system and in 2001 the company rebranded itself as PayPal.

eBay’s purchase of PayPal saw it become the internet’s number one payments system

PayPal was already offered as a payments system on eBay when the auction website decided to purchase PayPal outright in 2002, for the staggering sum of $1.5 billion. At the time eBay offered alternative payment systems such as Billpoint, c2it, PayDirect and Google Checkout, but PayPal swiftly eclipsed all alternatives and other sites began to offer PayPal as an online payments facilitator.

By 2010 there were over 100 million PayPal user accounts. In 2014 eBay decided that PayPal had become too big as a subsidiary company, so they decided to spin PayPal off as a company in its own right. Over time, PayPal has swallowed up many of its competitors and companies that offer finance-related services, such as Paydiant, Xoom, iZettle and Honey.

As we move firmly into the 2020s there are close to 380 million PayPal accounts open across the globe, with 10 million new PayPal accounts being opened each quarter.

PayPal and Sports Betting are not friends in all jurisdictions

PayPal and sports betting have not always been happy bedfellows. Go back a decade and despite PayPal already having established itself as the number one online payment services provider on the planet, you would not find a single sports book, online casino site, slots site or even bingo site that used PayPal as a payments method. It is only in recent years (when PayPal worked out they were missing out on a great deal of potential revenue) that PayPal have relaxed their ‘no gambling’ stance.

Their current rules seem a little unclear. For example, on PayPal’s website and in relation to gambling activities, the company quite clearly states “PayPal prohibits tranactions for gambling activities for merchants and account holders in the U.S.”. Despite this, there are a handful of legal and licensed US betting sites that accept PayPal payments. There is further confusion as the text clearly states “Merchants must demonstrate to PayPal’s satisfaction that they have the ability to block gambling activities for account holders in the U.S.”

If you are based in the UK, then there is no such confusion. Possession of a UKGC licence is required by law at all Paypal sports betting sites in the UK. PayPal says it is happy to allow its services to be used for gambling activities in the UK at sites that have the proper licensing. Whether you use PayPal or not, this is another reason why you should only ever place wagers at sites with a UKGC licence.
