What is an Each Way Bet Calculator?

If you don’t take a punt regularly on the leading betting sites in the UK, then you may not be familiar with the each way bet. Not to worry, as we explain it all right here in language you can understand. Just think of us as jargon busters.

For those looking for a deeper dive into each way betting, we’ve got a dedicated page on it. This wager is effectively two bets in one where the unit stake gambled doubles. There’s the straight up win part and the place part that pays at a set fraction of outright odds. We’ll have more on that and the terms offered later on.

By far most commonly associated with horse racing betting, but also available on other sports, our each way bet calculator does all the number crunching on profits and total returns for you. Highlighting these may help you understand the difference between betting on the same outcome as a straight win and what you can get from an each way bet on that eventuality.

We’ve designed a terrific tool that shows you what will happen in terms of a payout from the bookies in different scenarios. You can see the returns if your selection just runs into a place but also how much the win is worth. All the maths and calculations are done for you automatically in a couple of seconds.

Using Our Free Each Way Bet Calculator

It’s a piece of cake using our handy tool for working out what your each way bets are worth. Just follow these simple steps and you’ll soon get to grips with it:

  1. Make sure the calculator is set to Single & Each Way.
  2. Click Yes from the Yes / No option, so the tool knows it’s an each way bet.
  3. Enter the stake from your wager in the top left box. The calculator automatically doubles the unit stake.
  4. Choose the odds format at the top right with fractional and decimal odds you main choices with each way punts.
  5. Now put the place terms in. You’ll have a range of options here.
  6. Input the odds you took or are thinking of taking into the each way bet calculator.
  7. Include any Rule 4 deduction that applies when there are non-runners in line with the Tattersalls Committee Rules of Betting to the wager.
  8. Key in the result of your each way bet with the following choices available: Won, Placed, Dead Heat, Lost, Void.
  9. Hit the calculate button to view and see total stake, returns and profit.

How to Use a Lucky 15 Each Way Bet Calculator

You can do so much more than calculate each way singles with our neat tool. It’s possible to work out a whole range of different bet types that you might want to consider putting on this way. The Lucky 15 is a classic wager that many horse racing punters opt for, simply because it somewhat mitigates the risks attached to an accumulator. Let us explain this bet to you.

A Lucky 15 is a combination and system wager involving four picks put together as individual singles, six doubles, four trebles and a fourfold accumulator. Add those up, and you’ve got 15 bets. They all go on the same betslip. It’s not a stretch to imagine where the Lucky 15 got its name from.

While the unit stake on a win only wager of this kind multiplies by 15, if you go each way that outlay becomes doubled on top of that. That makes 30x a simple win single with an each way Lucky 15. It’s at this point where our free bet calculator becomes indispensable to punters as it automatically does all the maths for you.

Place Terms with a Horse Racing Each Way Bet Calculator

As noted above, there are place terms set by bookmakers on all each way bets. With football outright markets, for instance, these are either half or a third of the outright odds for two places.

In the event that you’re betting on a division or competition’s top goalscorer, meanwhile, you may get a quarter of the price taken available on four places in pre-season or the early stages of the campaign. It’s more likely that you have bet on horse racing this way than football or another sport, though.

If you’re using an each way bet calculator on Grand National wagers, for example, then you’ll hopefully have taken extra places where offered by the bookies. When and where those are available is entirely at the discretion of the online bookmakers themselves.

There are industry standards for place terms based on the minimum number of runners and type of race that they must follow, however. The faction of outright odds will always be either a quarter or a fifth. The table below summarises Rule 3, which sets the following parameters:

Number of Runners Place Terms Notes
1-4 None offered Standard industry practice
5-7 1/4 for 2 places Extra Places at bookmakers’ discretion
8 or more in conditions races 1/5 for 3 places Extra Places at bookmakers’ discretion
12-15 in handicap races 1/4 for 3 places Extra Places at bookmakers’ discretion
16 or more in handicap races 1/4 for 4 places Extra Places at bookmakers’ discretion
Additional places 1/5 for 5, 6 places, etc At bookmakers’ discretion
