The debate regarding the best footballing talent might linger on, but there is no denying that Cristiano Ronaldo is the most popular footballer alive today.

The 39-year-old, who currently plays for Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr, launched his YouTube channel on 21st August, and within a little over a day of its launch, the channel has accumulated more than 20 million subscribers. In comparison, Lionel Messi’s YouTube channel, which has existed for more than 12 years, has only 2.2 million subscribers. Neymar, who is also currently playing his football in Saudi Arabia, has 4.6 million subscribers on his YouTube channel.

Ronaldo is also marching towards becoming the first footballer to have a billion followers across his social media channels. At the time of writing, Ronaldo boasts 947.6 million followers approximately on his social media channels. In comparison, Messi has a total of 632.2 million followers on his socials.

Ronaldo’s Instagram account is responsible for the biggest contribution to his social media following, with 636.1 million followers. His Facebook account further adds 170.1 million followers to his base. The Al Nassr player has 112.6 million more followers on his Twitter/X account and 8.8 million more on Weibo.

Thus, Ronaldo’s following across his accounts on Instagram, Facebook, X, Weibo, and YouTube totals 947.6 million followers. Ronaldo has gained 43 million followers, not counting his YouTube account, within the last year. Thus, all the signs indicate that if his following continues to grow at a similar rate, he could very soon become the first football player to cross a billion followers on his social media channels.
