Revenues dropped by 0.07% to £6,018 million
After three years of sustained growth following COVID-19, Premier League clubs witnessed stagnation in overall revenues during 2023-24.
As per the numbers from Deloitte, Premier League clubs made a total of £6018 million in revenue during 2023-24. The overall revenue dropped by £40m, or 0.07%, from £6,058 million earned in 22-23.
The drop seems insignificant in front of the overall revenue, but the disappointing aspect is that it comes after three years of sustained growth. The overall revenue witnessed a sharp dive in 2019/20 owing to the pandemic. The revenues dropped by 12.7% from £5,150 million in 2018/19 to £4,493 million in 2019/20. Next year, the effects of the pandemic lingered as clubs made minimal matchday income. However, the overall revenue grew by 8.3% to £4,869 million in 2020-21. The growth continued in 2021-22 as the overall revenue crossed the pre-pandemic levels for the first time. Premier League clubs made a total of £5,455 million in revenue in 21-22, indicating a growth of more than 12%. The revenues continued to grow in 2022-23 as overall revenue reached £6,058 million, a further increase of 11%. However, this period of growth has come to an end in 2023-24 as overall revenue has decreased by a small amount of £40m.
Nevertheless, as per the same report, Premier League clubs will recover from this small dip in 2024-25. Overall revenues in 24-25 are expected to reach £6,384 million following a 6.1% increase.

Matchday revenue used to be a major source of income for clubs not long ago. However, in 2023-24, it only contributed to 14% of the entire income, or £871 million.
