Despite falling demand for its gaming console and Nintendo’s reduced forecast for the fiscal year 2024, Switch continues climbing the chart of the best-selling consoles of all time.
According to data presented by SafeBettingSites.com, Nintendo Switch hit 125.6 million units in lifetime sales as of March, or 8.6 million more than the third-ranked PlayStation 4.
World`s Second Top-Selling Gaming Console of All Time
Besides bringing enormous profits for the Japanese gaming giant, Switch has achieved something never seen before. It became the second top-selling console in the market dominated by Sony, which still has three PlayStation consoles ranked in the top five.
Nintendo’s earnings report for FY 2023 shows that the Switch, Switch OLED, and Switch Lite hit 17.97 million combined unit sales between March 31st 2022 and March 31st this year, 22% less than in the same period a year before, bringing the total lifetime unit sales for the console to 125.6 million. The Japanese gaming giant expects Switch sales to continue falling in FY 2024 with a further 16.5% YoY drop to 15 million sold units.
Nevertheless, statistics show Switch surpassed the lifetime sale of the third-ranked PS4 by 8.6 million and sold 23.2 million more units than Play Station, the fourth best-selling console of all time. Wii still ranks fifth on this chart with 101.6 million in lifetime sales. PS3 and Xbox 360 follow, with 87 million and 85.8 million, respectively.
Statistics also show that Sony`s ninth-generation console PS5 ranked eleventh on this list, with 33.5 million units in lifetime sales as of March.
Nintendo Now has More than 114 million Annual Playing Users
Acting as both a portable and home console system, Nintendo Switch became a smash hit in the gaming community with millions of players worldwide. According to the company’s official data, Nintendo`s total player count has exploded over the years, reaching new record highs in 2023.
At the end of FY 2019, matching the period between March 2018 and March 2019, Nintendo had 35 million annual playing users. Over the next two years, this figure more than doubled and hit 87 million in March 2021.
Statistics show the number of annual playing users jumped by a massive 16 million in FY 2022, bringing the total count to 103 million in March 2022. Nintendo`s data show the company has more than 114 million annual playing users as of March 2023, showing an 11 million increase year-over-year.
