The latest entry in the long-running Pokémon franchise, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, has drawn millions of fans worldwide in just a week after its release. The sales of the latest Pokémon titles has continued surging ever since, placing it among the top Nintendo Switch games.
According to data presented by SafeBettingSites.com, with 20.6 million copies sold in just a month and a half after its release, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are one of the best-selling Nintendo Switch games of all time.
Scarlet and Violet Close to Reaching Pokémon Sword/Shield and Super Mario Odyssey Total Sales
First released in November 2022 for the Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are the first installments in the ninth generation of Pokémon video games. According to official company data, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet sold over ten million units worldwide during the launch weekend, including around four million copies in Japan alone.
During the holiday season quarter, the games have accumulated 20.61 million in lifetime sales and ranked high on the list of top-selling Nintendo Switch titles.
Statistics show Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are the seventh top-selling Nintendo Switch title of all time, following Super Mario Odyssey and Pokémon Sword and Shield. Although both titles have around five million more sold copies, they have been on the market much longer.
The Nintendo data show Pokémon Sword and Shield hit 25.6 million in lifetime sales as of December 2022, or three years after its release. In five years since the game has been on the market, Super Mario Odyssey has sold 25.1 million copies.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still the absolute king of all Nintendo Switch titles, with around 52 million in lifetime sales. Animal Crossing: New Horizons ranked second with close to 41.6 million. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild follows, with 30.4 million and 29 million in lifetime sales, respectively.
The Fourth Best-Selling Pokémon Title of All-Time
Since launching its first generation of console games on Nintendo’s Game Boy in 1996, Pokémon has become one of the world’s most successful gaming franchises, with nearly 500 million copies sold worldwide.
Pokémon is also one of the most persistent brand names in the gaming industry, with its Red/Green/Blue Version placing among the best-selling console games of all time, even 27 years after its release.
As the best-selling Pokémon title of all time, Red/Green/Blue hit 31.3 million in lifetime sales. The first full Pokémon game released on Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Sword/Shield, came in second place with 25.6 million units sold. With 23.1 million in lifetime sales, Pokémon Gold/Silver ranked as the third top-selling title. Pokémon Scarlet/Violet follows with only 2.5 million less sold copies.
