Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town WILL return to the Championship at first attempt with Wrexham securing a play-off spot in League 1, according to our AI Supercomputer.
Not only that, but Birmingham City will disappoint and miss out on promotion, with Leyton Orient, Exeter City, Northampton Town and Crawley Town relegated to League 2.
We asked our supercomputer to preview the upcoming 2024/25 League 1 campaign, and here it is below.
- Rotherham and Huddersfield bounce back to Championship at first attempt
- Wrexham’s development continues with play-ff finish in first League 1 season
- Birmingham disappoint, Leyton Orient, Exeter, Northampton and Crawley relegated
Millers and Terriers Promoted, Wrexham Make Play-Offs
The upcoming 2024/25 League 1 season is sure to be an entertaining one, with plenty of narratives heading into the start of the new campaign. Big clubs like Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town were relegated last season to League 1, alongside yo-yo side Rotherham United.
Not to mention the fact Wrexham looking to make it a hat-trick of promotions following their success in League 2 last season. According to our supercomputer, there will be many twists and turns throughout the 2024/25 League 1 season, resulting in promotion for both Rotherham and Huddersfield straight back to the Championship.
The Millers are no stranger to a relegation or promotion, with seven of their last eight campaigns resulting in either promotion from League 1 or relegation from the Championship. It comes as no surprise that the supercomputer is predicting Steve Evans’ side will win the League 1 Title, having an incredibly strong season which consists of 28 wins and 92 points in total.
It isn’t a huge surprise to see the Terriers returning to the Championship at the first time of asking either, given their financial situation as one of the richest clubs in the league. Both Huddersfield and Rotherham are amongst the favourites with the bookmakers, so AI predicting they will get promoted seems very reasonable to say the least.
Another bold prediction by the supercomputer is that Wrexham will continue their development and be in with a chance of completing a hat-trick of promotions following as play-off place finish next season. AI is predicting they will finish in fourth place, making up the play-offs alongside Bolton Wanderers, Barnsley and Peterborough United – all who made the League 1 play-offs last season but lost out to Oxford United for promotion.
Birmingham Woes Continue, Leyton Orient and Northampton Head Straight Back Down
The biggest club in League 1 next season without any doubt is Birmingham City. Their squad value is far higher than any of the other 23 clubs, as well as retaining a lot of their key players. They are huge favourites to gain automatic promotion back to the Championship, but our supercomputer is predicting a tough season for the Blues.
A tenth place finish for Birmingham as predicted by the supercomputer would be a completely underwhelming campaign. Blues’ fans will be expecting nothing less than promotion, so there could be some unhappy fans at St Andrews over the course of the next 10 months.
Down at the bottom, our supercomputer is predicting that newly promoted Northampton Town and Leyton Orient will both head straight back down to League 2, accompanied by Crawley Town and Exeter City.
Orient and the Cobblers both had outstanding seasons last year in League 2, but our supercomputer is predicting they could be in for a brutal campaign with relegation straight back down.
Some big clubs such as Reading, Wigan and Blackpool will finish mid-table according to AI, as will last season League 2 champions Stockport County.

Commentary
Lee Astley, Head of News at SafeBettingSites, commented on the supercomputer predicted 2024/25 League One season, saying:
“A League One season which sees Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town both return to the Championship at the first time of asking is certainly a dominant one for Yorkshire.
“The Millers’ promotion straight back to the Championship is no surprise given their yo-yo history, with the Terriers also extremely likely to bounce back at the first attempt under Michael Duff.
“It seems Wrexham’s development will continue with a play-off finish, as will some of last season’s play-off contingent in Barnsley, Bolton and Peterborough. The supercomputer also thinks Northampton and Leyton Orient will head straight back to League Two with Crawley and Exeter for company this time.”
Methodology
Combining the likes of ChatGPT, Gemini and Bing AI, a prediction was formulated by the supercomputer to predict the final league table standings for the 2024/25 Sky Bet League One season.
This included providing the supercomputer with a list of all 24 teams in the league and adding how many summer signings each team have made and how many players they have lost so far.
We also asked the supercomputer to predict the full league table including points, goal difference, matches won, matches lost, matches drawn and how many overall games they played.
To make the supercomputer prediction as accurate as possible, we also provided it with extensive information about each club in League One. This includes their recent form and how they performed last season, who their manager is, their financial position and the general feeling from fans about the upcoming season.
Based on all of these factors, the supercomputer predicted that Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town would return to the Championship via automatic promotion, whilst Bolton Wanderers, Wrexham, Barnsley and Peterborough United would make up the play-offs.
The supercomputer also predicted that Leyton Orient, Exeter City, Northampton Town and Crawley Town would be relegated to League One. We didn’t ask the supercomputer to predict who would win the play-offs between the four teams.
