Dan Skelton has completed the “plot job” of all plot jobs to break a Coral Cup record after Langer Dan bolted up to win the race for a second year in a row.
Langer Dan Breaks Coral Cup Record After Back-To-Back Wins
Controversially, Dan Skelton’s Langer Dan has won the Coral Cup for a second year in a row after bolting up by 3.5 lengths on Wednesday afternoon at odds of 13/2.
This comes after a number of unplaced and poor runs so far this season, causing a stir on social media about the campaigning of the horse.
It’s almost deja vu of what happened last year. The now eight-year-old struck off the same mark as his 2023 victory, becoming the first horse to ever win the Coral Cup twice.
Trainer Skelton was talking about his charge after the race: “He’s a remarkable little horse. He had surgery after winning this last year, which made him miss Aintree.
“Colm has had a torrid time with his two big guns ruled out, but this horse just knows how to do it on the big day.
“I’m very proud of the whole team, he’s bled on occasions this year and he had ulcers which we’ve treated – he’s just remarkable.”
It’s clear to see that Langer Dan comes into his best form at the big meetings at this time of the year, and it seems as if the plan of the Skeltons has worked out well once again.
With problems faced earlier on in the season, (bled and stomach ulcers) it was great to see Langer Dan get his head in front once again in an excellent training performance.

What Next For Langer Dan?
We could see Langer Dan in another handicap at some point this season, with the Aintree Grand National Festival just around the corner.
Then who knows, we could see him go for a third Coral Cup in a row next season at the 2025 Cheltenham Festival..
