It has been anything but an average start to the new Premier League season. Amongst the most noticeable trends, Premier League teams are scoring goals faster than ever. According to the numbers presented by SafeBettingSites.com, every Premier League game this season has witnessed a record average of 3.08 goals.

No season saw more than 2.85 goals per game

The new Premier League season has proven to be a goal fest. Up until now, 59 games have been played in the ongoing season, and 181 goals have been scored. Thus, every Premier League game has seen an average of 3.08 goals on average this season. In comparison, no Premier League season has seen more than 2.85 goals per game. Historically, the annual goal-scoring rate in the Premier League has hovered between 2.45 goals per game and 2.85 goals per game. The 2006-07 is the lowest scoring season ever in the league, with 2.45 goals per game. Meanwhile, the previous season, 2022-23, is the highest scoring ever, with 2.85 goals per game.

A look at the historical data of goals per game in the Premier League would tell you that the scoring rate saw a spike around the 2009-10 season. Prior to the 2009-10 season, the Premier League never witnessed more than 2.68 goals per game over the course of a season, except for the 1999-00 season, which produced 2.79 goals per game. Such a high scoring rate was a rare sight in the league during the time.

Similarly, from 2009-10 onwards, the Premier League never witnessed a season with a scoring rate of less than 2.68 goals per game, with the exception of the 2014-15 season, which saw the scoring rate plummeting to 2.57 goals per game. 

Following multiple seasons, which saw a scoring rate of more than 2.80 goals per game, the rate of scoring in the Premier League reached its peak of 2.85 goals per game during the 2022-23 season.

However, earlier trends indicate that the ongoing Premier League season could see a historic amount of goals. Because, at 3.08 goals per game, the 2023-24 season is producing goals at a rate that has not been seen before in the league.
