This lack of activity follows last year when Premier League sides spent a grand total of \u00a3720m on transfers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Up until recently, the general trend was that clubs preferred to do their business in the summer, and the January window was meant for emergencies. However, the PL clubs have recently started buckling the trend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Until the 2019 January window, the record for highest spending in the Premier League was \u00a3100m, set during the 2016 January window. However, the 2020 window witnessed an uptick in January activity as Premier League clubs spent \u00a3165m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A rather bleak January window followed this in 2021 as the footballing world was reeling from the pandemic. Only \u00a315m was spent by Premier League clubs that year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">However, in 2021, we saw another January window record as PL clubs splashed out \u00a3180m on players. Last year, the spending reached another level altogether as clubs decided to make some serious acquisitions, splashing out \u00a3720m in the process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The market has been subdued this year as almost all clubs have refrained from spending serious money. Radu Dr\u0103gu\u0219in&#8217;s move from Genoa to Tottenham is the only one that can be called a big-money signing. Spurs paid approximately \u00a322m for the signing of the Romanian.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It remains to be seen whether the same lull persists over the left of the window. However, one certain thing is that this window won&#8217;t match the levels of the last few January windows.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Vyom Chaudhary, editor at SafeBettingSites.com, said: &#8220;FFP has created havoc over the transfer plans of various big-spending Premier League clubs. Several clubs are struggling to stay within their spending limit and that has led to a dead market.
