As one of the top-grossing mobile games in the world, Genshin Impact continues racking in impressive revenue from its huge player base.

According to data presented by Safe Betting Sites, the nine-month revenue of MiHoYo’s action RPG jumped by 20% year-over-year and hit $1.13bn.

Nine-Month Revenue 10% Higher than in Entire 2021

In just six months after its release in September 2020, Genshin Impact hit a few impressive milestones. The action RPG became the No. 2 revenue-generating mobile game globally, following Tencent’s PUBG Mobile and ranking above hits like Pokémon GO and Roblox. Also, it became the fastest mobile gaming app to generate $1 billion in player spending worldwide.

However, as a great example of the gacha monetization trend in mobile games, Genshin Impact managed to boost revenue further in 2022.

Like loot boxes, a gacha system leads players to spend in-game currency to receive random items. In Genshin Impact, the gacha system is implemented via several so-called banners featuring characters or available weapons for a limited amount of time. Spending in-game currency on these banners is the main way of unlocking new characters in the game.

According to AppMagic data, Genshin Impact players spent $951.3 million on in-app purchases in nine months of 2021. By the end of last year, total player spending hit $1.26bn.

However, in 2022 player spending exploded, with the game racking in $1.13bn in nine months, 10% more than last year. The game is particularly popular in Japan, where players generated an average revenue per download of $100 in September. Singapore ranked second, with a cumulative RPD of $72.69. Hong King followed with $53.69, while RPD in China and the United States, as the other top-grossing markets, was $33.81 and $32.61.

More than 127 million Lifetime Downloads

The AppMagic data showed MiHoYo’s action role-playing game was downloaded around 4.5 million times each month since its release, except in October 2020, which remains a record month with 17.5 million downloads.

Statistics show the game hit 33.3 million downloads in just four months of 2020. Last year, Genshin Impact was downloaded 53.1 million times, with its lifetime downloads rising to 86.5 million.

Downloads continued surging in 2022 with an army of Genshin Impact fans playing the game. In nine months of the year, the anime-style action RPG was downloaded 40.6 million times worldwide, with lifetime downloads jumping over 127 million.
