While the UEFA Europa League (UEL) may not be as prestigious as the UEFA Champions League (UCL), it is still a competitive tournament. Playing in and ultimately winning the competition is no mean feat. So clubs that didn’t qualify for the UCL, or go beyond its group stages, still look at it as an important source of pride and accomplishment. The UEL is replete with records of individual and team brilliance.

“Safebettingsites has been digging through the competition’s annals. It concludes that Inter Milan has played the highest number of games in the competition. The Italian giants have played 191 matches, four more than the second-placed team. Inter Milan’s involvement in the Europa League dates back to the competition’s predecessor, the UEFA Cup, where they played their first match in 1972.

Inter’s Rich History

Inter Milan has a long and storied history in the UEFA Europa League,” holds Safebettingsites’ Edith Reads. She adds, ” The club has consistently been one of the strongest teams in the competition and has provided its fans with some memorable moments. The club’s 191 matches in the Europa League are a testament to its pedigree and dedication to competing at the highest level possible.”

Inter Milan is one of the most successful teams in the UEFA Europa League. It is the joint second most successful team in the UEL, with three titles. The team won its first title in 1991, followed by wins in 1994 and 1998. This puts it in some outstanding company, as it shares the same number of titles as Liverpool, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid. Only Sevilla, with six titles, has more UEFA Europa League success than the quartet.

Inter Has Had The Most Wins In the EUL

With 96 UEFA Europa League wins under their belt, Inter Milan sits at the top of the leaderboard – six matches clear of Sporting Lisbon in second place. As well as racking up the highest number of UEFA Europa League wins, Inter Milan has also scored the most goals in the tournament (297). Moreover, it has accrued the highest points tally (236).

Inter Milan is one of the teams that has participated the most in the tournament, appearing a total of 28 times. This puts them in 5th place for the most appearances by a single team. It trails Sporting Lisbon (34), Club Brugge (32), FK Crvena Zvezda (30), and FK Partizan (29).

Sevilla’s Record-Breaking Successes

Sevilla is undoubtedly the most successful team in UEFA Europa League history. They’ve won a record six titles, including three in a row from 2014 to 2016. Their feat is even more impressive because they’ve done so from only 16 appearances. That means they’ve won the trophy almost one-third of the times they’ve participated – an extraordinary feat.

UEFA Europa League is a UEFA-sanctioned football club competition held annually since 1971. It is the second-tier competition of European club football, ranking below the UEFA Champions League. A total of 48 clubs participate in the group stage to decide the 16 teams that will progress to the knockout stage.

While the UCL may get all the glory, the UEL is no slouch for generating revenue. In fact, with total revenues of 358.3 million euros during the 2020/21 season, the UEL is big business. Nevertheless, it has struggled to build a strong following among football fans. Many see it as a secondary league, but it offers plenty of thrills and spills for those willing to give it a chance.
