Metaverse has become the latest buzz word in web technology. Several tech companies are already working on creating virtual worlds. However, the general public is still unsure at large about the Metaverse. According to numbers presented by SafeBettingSites.com, 62% of the US adult population is not familiar with the Metaverse.
Only 14% of US adults are very familiar with the Metaverse
Metaverse is defined as a virtual world where users can interact with each other and share experiences with the help of VR/AR. Such worlds have existed in science fiction for a long time. However, Facebook became the first big tech giant to announce its plans for a virtual world by changing its name to Meta last year. Ever since the announcement, the Metaverse seemed to have captured the world’s imagination.
However, there is still considerable uncertainty among the public about the Metaverse. In a survey conducted by Ipsos earlier this year, only 14% of US adults admitted to being very familiar with the Metaverse. The survey was conducted among 1001 respondents, all above 18 years of age. As per the data, 24% of the survey takers said they are somewhat familiar with the Metaverse. Hence, only 38% of US adults have some sort of familiarity with the Metaverse.
31% of respondents said they have heard of Metaverse, but they are not sure what it means. Another 31% said they had never heard of the Metaverse. Thus, 69% of US adults have at least heard about the Metaverse.
The 18-34 age group is more familiar with the Metaverse than the 35-54 and 55+ age groups. In the 18-34 age group, 26% of respondents said they are very familiar with the Metaverse compared to 14% in the 35-54 group. Only 4% among the 55+ group said they are very familiar.
21% of the 18-34 age group admitted to having never heard of the Metaverse. In the 35-54 group, 24% of respondents hadn’t heard of the concept. In the 55+ group, a massive 45% of respondents said they had never heard of the Metaverse.
