The year 2021 set a new record for live streaming platforms, as millions of people worldwide continued spending billions of hours watching the gaming titles. Twitch, Youtube Gaming, and Facebook Gaming hit a total of 8.8 billion hours watched in the first quarter of 2021, an 80% jump year-over-year. As the most-watched video game publisher globally, Riot Games had a massive role in that increase.
According to data presented by Safe Betting Sites, Riot Games hit 834 million hours watched in the first quarter of 2021, an impressive 80% increase in a year.
More than 3.8 Billion Hours Watched in the Last Year
Last year, live streaming platforms witnessed impressive growth, as lockdown rules and COVID-19 restrictions made live broadcasts even more attractive to millions of people.
As the most-watched video game publisher globally, Riot Games hit 462 million hours watched between January and March 2020, revealed the StreamLabs and Stream Hatchet data. Over the next three months, this figure surged by 144% to more than 1.1 billion hours.
In the third quarter of the year, the Los Angeles-based developer of the global eSports phenomenon League of Legends continued dominating live streaming platforms with a total of 756.7 million hours watched, 265.3 million more than the second-leading Tencent.
Over the next three months, this figure slightly dropped to 680 million, with Riot Games still leading the live streaming ranking. However, the increasing trend continued in 2021, with eSports fans spending 834 million hours watching the Riot Games titles, 22% more than a quarter before that.

League of Legends Hit 534 Million Hours Watched in Q1 2021, a 25% Jump YoY
The StreamLabs data showed League of Legends was the most popular video game globally between January and March. A free-to-play multiplayer tactical first-person shooter developed and published by Riot Games was the most-watched game of Q1 2021, with a sizeable portion of the viewership coming from its esports leagues.
Statistics show League of Legends reached 534 million hours watched in the first three months of 2021, a 25% increase year-over-year. Also, the popular gaming title hit close to 2.4 billion hours watched on the live streaming platforms in the last year, or 63% of all Riot Games hours watched in this period.
