League of Legends Hit 40.7 Million Weekly Hours Watched on Twitch, more than Fortnite and Call of Duty Combined

As the leading game streaming platform globally, Twitch has witnessed a surge in the number of streamers and viewers since the beginning of the year. The growing user base was followed by a significant increase in the number of hours Twitch fans spent on watching the world’s most popular gaming titles.

According to data presented by SafeBettingSites, League of Legends ranked as the most popular Twitch game last week, with 40.7 million hours watched in seven days, more than Fortnite and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare combined.

League of Legends Hit 1.1bn Hours Watched in 2020

As the leading Twitch game, League of Legends hit an average of 242,000 weekly viewers and a 10.5% market share last week, revealed the Twitch Tracker data. Statistics show the popular Riot Games title also witnessed a surge in the monthly number of hours watched on the streaming platform. In January, Twitch users spent a total of 99.7 million hours watching the game.

By the end of March, this figure jumped to 123 million and continued rising. League of Legends hit 143 million hours watched in June, a 43% jump since the beginning of the year. In the last three months, the average number of watched hours bounced between 130 million and 142 million. Statistics show Twitch users spent a total of 1.1 billion hours watching League of Legends in the nine months of 2020.

The Number of Fortnite Viewers Dropped 34% Since May

With 18.1 million hours watched in the last seven days and 4.7% market share, Fortnite ranked as the second most-popular Twitch game.

The Twitch Tracked data revealed the Epic Games` megahit had witnessed a significant drop in both the average monthly number of viewers and hours they spent watching the game.

In January, the number of Twitch users watching Fortnite amounted to 72,300. In the next two months, this figure rose to 89,100. By the end of May, the monthly number of viewers jumped over 165,000, a 128% increase in five months. However, the last four months have witnessed a decreasing trend, with the average number of Fortnite viewers on Twitch falling to 108,000 in September.

Statistics indicate Twitch users spent a total of 77.7 million hours watching the game last month, a 36% plunge compared to May figures.

With 17.3 million hours watched in a week, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare ranked as the third most-popular game last month. The Twitch Tracked data indicate the iconic first-person shooter game also witness a significant drop in the number of viewers and the hours they spent watching the title.

In May, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare hit 123,000 average viewers and a total of 91.2 million hours watched. By the end of September, these figures dropped to 103,000 and 73.8 million.
